About Us
Our beginnings in the hay business don’t extend back generations with systems and methods passed down from grandpa’s grandpa. Our start actually came from what we didn’t want to do: mow grass. In 2016 we purchased an adjoining farm that included 20 acres of tillable ground, a machine shed, a house and a yard that was too big for our liking. The game plan was pretty simple: plant the 3 acres of yard into alfalfa so we don’t have to mow it, bale into small squares and sell for some extra beer money.
Those first few seasons taught us a little bit about what worked and a whole a lot about what didn’t. Perhaps the biggest lesson that we learned was that we didn’t want to be a “beer-money” hay operation. Our focus needed to change and we began investing toward growing a healthier crop through adequate fertility, irrigation and better pest management. As time went on the quality of our final product began to grow, as well as our customer base.
Fast forward to the present and we are currently making hay on approximately 60 acres. We still predominately bale all small squares, but have expanded our offerings to pure alfalfa, alfalfa/orchard grass mix, pure orchard grass and pure timothy grass. With each cutting we continue the focus of raising a healthy crop as we continue our pursuit of a high-quality final product.
